Villa Issi
The ultra avant-garde property known as Villa Issi is a secret oasis in the heart of Seminyak's fashionable 'Golden Triangle' on Bali's southwest coast. Set on a prime 1500-square-metre block of land, private, peaceful and away from the sounds of the traffic, this exceptional four-bedroom property is less than one kilometre from the beach, the chic boutiques, the world-class restaurants and the exciting night life for which Seminyak is famed.
The Villa
Completed in February 2011, Villa Issi's architectural and interior design is exceedingly modern. This two-storey masterpiece blends elegant finishes with superior amenities, and takes advantage of its tropical location with an abundance of glass walls and floor-to-ceiling glass doors that can be closed for air-conditioned comfort or fully opened to create a semi-alfresco ambience.
The concept is grand proportions, huge doors and space, providing high tech living and entertaining facilities in combined areas. The theme is monochromatic, while the original artwork - designed by the owners, along with the cushions and the ceramics - forms the colour.
A defining feature of the villa issi is the perforated steel and wood exterior screen on the upper level, which shades the house from the sun, plays on the shadows and creates a beautiful soft diffused light. Another striking feature is the ulin timber floored deck that extends from the upper level and traverses the 25-metre infinity-edge swimming pool.
The interiors are characterised by uncluttered simplicity, ensuring that guests will fully appreciate the textures of the dominant components and stonework. At night the villa takes on a different persona with innovative recessed lighting and more detailed shadow lines.
The four-bedroom villa comprises a main two-storey building, a self-contained two-bedroom guesthouse, a standalone gym/massage room, swimming pool and garden.
There are numerous private spots in which to escape, in fact a family or group of ten could stay here and still lose one another within the villa's depths. There is a secure two-car garage and a fully serviced staff area with a discreet lane from the main service kitchen to the villa kitchen and dining room.
Entrance
From the outside, visitors will have no idea of what to expect as they enter Villa Issi via a walled walkway over an ornamental pond. This leads into a walled garden with terraced lawns, a white cow sculpture, and a dazzling swimming pool flanked by a cascading wall of water.
Dining Room
The dining room is the epicenter of the main building. It is furnished with a credenza and a 3.2-metre blond wood dining table with bench seating for 14, softly lit by five hanging lanterns. Floor-to-ceiling, folding glass doors open directly to the pool deck and invite the garden indoors, while orange, red and yellow fruit-themed artwork brings a bright splash of colour to the back wall. The open-plan kitchen is conveniently positioned at one end.
Kitchen
Villa Issi's splendid kitchen blends utilitarian beauty with cutting-edge design. Crafted in 'wenge' black wood and stainless steel, with a central countertop that optimises the connection between the kitchen and the dining area, it is fully equipped with an imported oven and five-burner hob, a state-of-the-art Boretti fridge, and sophisticated tapware, bringing flair to the cooking place. Everything that the chef needs in order to prepare delicious meals for his guests can be found both here and in the dedicated service kitchen, which is tucked away out of sight at the entrance to the villa.
Living Room
The monochromatic theme comes into its own in the stylish living room, where - once again - floor-to-ceiling glass doors can be opened to the pool deck to allow the cool breezes to permeate (along with the assistance of a ceiling fan), or alternatively closed for air-conditioned comfort. The room is furnished with two large black sofas, ottomans in black and white, black lamps, a pair of super-comfortable chairs fashioned in black leather, and a zebra skin rug upon the grey terrazzo floor. There is also a 55", flat screen, 60-channel TV and DVD player. The whole house is wired for sound with a Bose system and 20 speakers set in the ceilings throughout, and controlled in every room. In the evenings, the mood is fused with an innovative Lutron lighting control and home entertainment dimming system.
Hall and Landing
Adjacent to the kitchen on the ground floor, is a wall built with custom-cut organic lava stone from central Java, and a guest powder room with a penshell resin countertop. A floating cantilevered staircase leads from this area to the upper floor past exterior walls showcasing louvred shutters designed to create airflow. At the top of the stairs is a large and colourful piece of artwork, dramatically lit with backlighting.
Master Bedroom
Villa Issi's stylish, air-conditioned master bedroom features a warm recycled teakwood floor and glass walls, while continuing the black and white theme with a crisp white wall, black drapes, and striking black & white artwork.
The contemporary furnishings include a king-size bed, a pair of black leather chairs, and a white cabinet from which a flat screen TV, complete with DVD player, appears at the press of a button. This spacious suite is complemented by a large walk-in dressing room with white cabinets and a padded white leather seat, and a cool, hugely spacious ensuite bathroom fashioned in grey terrazzo with a free-standing, oversized grey terrazzo bathtub, twin square washbasins in white ceramic, a toilet, a bid, and two walk-in monsoon showers. One of the showers is positioned indoors and harmonised with ambient lighting, while the other is fitted to a black volcanic rock splashback and open to the sky within a secluded outdoor area.
Veranda and Elevated Deck
A balcony-veranda wraps around two sides of the upper floor and one corner offers a secret alcove, furnished with two white lounger chairs. This is a great spot to escape with a book. Extending from this balcony is a timber that bridges the swimming pool to form a unique party space or chill out area, perfect for sunset cocktails.
Study Bedroom
The air-conditioned study bedroom offers an ideal space for anyone travelling on business as it is fitted with a long desk built in to the wall. The room is furnished with a king size bed and leather chairs, and equipped with a 32" TV. A DVD player can be made available on request. A large dressing room is located behind, and decorated with more artwork. The ensuite bathroom presents a monsoon shower behind a glass wall, and a glossy black resin washbasin. As with each bathroom at Villa Issi, a full set of quality bathroom amenities is provided for guest use.
Guesthouse
A single-storey, standalone pavilion presents two more guest bedrooms complete with ensuite garden bathrooms. Mirror images of each other, these two bedrooms feature honey coloured teakwood floors, king size beds - each with a pair of white leather reclining bed heads - a 32" flat screen TV, iPod Dock and a padded seat. Artwork and ceramics provide a dash of colour. Walk-through dressing rooms lead to the garden bathrooms, each featuring a pergola roof above a standing monsoon shower, bathtub for two, and twin black resin washbasins. The spacious and very private gardens adjoining the bathrooms are planted with lemongrass to keep the mosquitoes at bay, along with a field of irises and giant ‘elephant ear' taro plants. An elevated terrace at the front of the pavilion overlooks the pool and garden and is furnished with silver beanbag chairs and orange beanbag daybeds.
Gym
The standalone gym and massage room showcases a creamy white palimanan stone wall and a grey terrazzo floor.
It is well-equipped with a treadmill, a pilates power machine and fitball, as well as a 32" TV and iPod Dock. The gym is complemented by a bathroom with a shower and toilet.
Garden
The garden is a palate of green, white and yellow, with flowering trees and six varieties of ancient sweet scented frangipani, some of which are over 100 years old. The central focus of the property is stunning 25-metre swimming pool, which is perfect for swimming laps. It is bordered by an ulin timber deck, furnished with aluminium sunloungers and beanbags. There is also a covered outdoor area with a gas fired barbeque.
Services
Villa Issi is supported by a carefully- selected team of highly trained, friendly staff who will do their best to ensure that their guests experience a truly enjoyable stay in Bali. The team is headed by a villa manager who will oversee and coordinate the staff and property, and is available to assist guests during their stay. The team also includes a top class chef, butlers, housekeepers, a gardener/pool attendant and security guards. The chef is superbly competent in the preparation of both local and international cuisine, and the staff are responsible for all the market shopping, in accordance with the needs and the whims of the guests. The housekeepers fulfill all of the housekeeping duties while also taking care of the daily laundry. Massage services are available on request at an extra charge.

Villa Issi is located in a quiet cul-de-sac in Seminyak's Golden Triangle, a prime location exemplified by internationally-acclaimed beachside restaurants, opulent spas, boutique hotels, trendy cocktail bars, and chic designer boutiques.
